Veterinary emergency IVET

We know that when something happens to an animal, it is very difficult to assess how serious the situation is. And that is exactly why the emergency room is there.

WHO BELONGS TO THE EMERGENCY SERVICE?🐾

Especially patients with an acute or suddenly worsening condition, for whom waiting until the next day could mean a deterioration in their health or a threat to their life.

Typically, for example:

• difficulty breathing or severe shortness of breath

• collapse, unconsciousness or severe weakness, convulsions

• heavy or persistent bleeding

• serious accident, being hit by a car or falling from a height

• sudden significant deterioration in health

• suspected poisoning or ingestion of a dangerous substance

• acute urination problems, especially in male cats

• repeated vomiting or diarrhea associated with significant weakness or rapid deterioration of condition, suspicion of gastric torsion

• acute neurological symptoms

• eye injury or sudden loss of vision

• complications after surgery or other procedure

• complications during childbirth

WHAT IF I'M NOT SURE?

Call.

You don't have to diagnose yourself at home or decide if the condition is "serious enough."

When calling us, it will help if you say:

• what kind of animal do you have,

• his age and approximate weight,

• what happened,

• what are the symptoms,

• how long they last,

• whether the condition is worsening,

• if applicable, what medications he/she is taking.

This will help us better assess the urgency and tell you how to proceed.

WHAT DOES NOT BELONGS TO EMERGENCY SERVICE❓

Emergency care is not intended to be a substitute for routine veterinary care.

For example, if your pet has been mildly itchy for several days, has long-term smelly ears, has a claw problem, has a small bump, needs a certificate, needs to be issued, needs to be vaccinated, needs to have a preventive check-up, or has a long-term problem that has not suddenly worsened, it is usually not necessary to address these problems in an emergency situation.

In such cases, it is better to make an appointment with your treating veterinarian during regular office hours.

Not only because it frees up emergency room capacity for truly acute patients, but also because planned care is more pleasant for both the animal and the owner and allows the veterinarian to devote enough time to the problem.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT❓

Patients in the emergency room may be in different conditions at the same time. The order of patients is therefore determined not only by the time of arrival, but also by the severity of their medical condition.

Sometimes you may have to wait longer, even if you arrived earlier than another patient. In the meantime, the team may be dealing with a patient in immediate danger of death, for example.

It's not because we don't take your problem seriously. It's because we're trying to help the person who needs help the most at the moment.

PLEASE CALL US BEFORE YOU COME

If the situation allows, always call the emergency services first.

We can prepare for your arrival, give you instructions and, in some cases, recommend the most suitable workplace.

If you feel that "this is not normal", your pet has suddenly changed, is getting significantly worse, or you are simply worried that waiting until morning might not be safe, it is better to consult a doctor.

Thank you for helping us keep emergency care available, especially for patients who really need it at that moment ❤
