Spine surgery
Spinal surgery deals with the issues of spinal diseases with the possibility of detailed diagnostics (X-ray, CT, myelography), the design of semi-invasive therapy or specific surgical solutions following the most modern world trends. We offer consultations on the entire spectrum of spinal diagnoses - degenerative diseases, tumors, developmental defects, deformities, traumas.
The most common indication for spinal surgery in dogs is undoubtedly intervertebral disc disease. A larger or smaller part of the diseased disc is able to change its position under certain circumstances and thereby compress the spinal cord. Compressing the spinal cord can lead to paralysis of the patient. This condition is always serious and must be treated as such.
Surgery for a herniated disc should always be performed when the patient is unable to walk. In the case of mild compression, when the patient is able to walk, this condition does not always need to be treated surgically.
The basic prerequisite for a successful surgical solution to this problem is the timeliness of the procedure, i.e. as soon as possible after the appearance of symptoms.
The speed of solving the problem is often the fundamental factor that decides whether the patient will walk or not.
Another, no less important prerequisite for the patient's recovery is accurate diagnostics. In our workplace, we routinely use computed tomography - CT, or myelography. However, myelography is used only in necessary cases, due to its possible negative consequences for the patient.
We only proceed with surgery if we have an accurate diagnosis, i.e. the localization of the problem.
Localization is very important for minimally invasive surgical procedures.
The aim of the surgery is to remove the part of the disc that is compressing the spinal cord with the least possible invasion - the least possible damage to the spine and adjacent structures.

Postoperative care has a very significant impact on a quick return to normal life.
The patient begins physiotherapy on the second day.
With each passing day, rehabilitation increases. A hydrotherapy-rehabilitation bath is very suitable for physiotherapy.

The patient is often able to walk one week after the procedure.
