Haki - a story with a happy ending 🐾🐾🐾

Haki was undoubtedly one of the most complex and, above all, the most interesting orthopedic patients of the last year. In July 2017, he was attacked by a large dog. The result was a complicated fracture of the ulna with massive soft tissue injury, and the ligaments and tendons in the carpal and elbow areas were also damaged. Due to poor healing, one operation was followed by another about a month later. However, due to complications, after another two months, the carpal joint entered a state of complete ankylosis (stiffness), which resisted all therapeutic interventions.

Therefore, in early December 2017, manual release and mobilization of the joint under anesthesia was performed. Unfortunately, after only 14 days, the joint returned to its original poor posture - the wrist flexor groups, due to the developing contractures, returned the joint to ankylosis. According to the vet at the time, there was only a five percent chance that the leg would remain at least minimally mobile, and Hakim was facing the threat of arthrodesis (full surgical immobilization of the joint) or even amputation of the leg. However, we did not want to give up! In January 2018, another manual release of the joint took place under anesthesia (unfortunately, castration was also performed during this procedure due to the detected testicular tumor) and the leg was subsequently fixed with an orthosis. Thanks to this, the joint remained free and Haki began to step on his foot within about 2 months.

Paradoxically, at that time, the carpal joint was extremely loose, the cooperation of the flexor and extensor muscle groups of the joint was "out of sync", but this disappeared within 3 months thanks to intensive strengthening in water and manual rehabilitation. Judge for yourself, considering that the leg was supposed to be amputated, the result is absolutely beyond expectations! We are happy :-)
