At our IVET veterinary clinic, we focus on the treatment of parrots in small-scale breeding. We emphasize prevention:

  • appropriate nutrition

  • environment

  • differences in individual, pair, and group housing. Sex determination via DNA analysis. We have experience with procedures requiring general anesthesia, using isoflurane inhalation anesthesia. Common issues in parrots:

  • apathy, loss of appetite

  • diarrhea, regurgitation

  • feather disorders

  • overgrown beak and claws

  • respiratory distress, egg binding, cloacal prolapse

  • neoplastic diseases

  • fractures and other injuries

  • ingrown leg band It is natural for parrots to hide illness for a very long time. The owner's own observation and noting even subtle changes in behavior is extremely important. Owners can take video recordings or photos in the bird's natural environment. Please bring parrots in a transport carrier or home cage so we can assess their posture, movement, and resting respiration. A stool sample is also important.
